Does Anyone Have Suggestions On How To Deal With Sciatic Pain?

I have had 2 pregnancies, resulting in 3 children. I had sciatic pain during pregnancy and it disappeared postpartum, but it flares up frequently. Is there anything I can do to help these flare-ups? I am about to die! It is very difficult to take care of my 5 year old and 14 month old twins. Meds don’t seem to work. Any exercises or stretches that anyone knows of?
Please HELP!

Before you do the stretches, please try putting on a warm compression to relax the muscle…if you dont have a heating pack, try putting a towel in the microwave heated up and then place it at the buttocks..leave it there for 20mins…then proceed to stretch.
Have you tried to see a massage therapist? getting a therapeutic massage can help you very much.
Hope this site helps you…this site shows you the stretches you need for the sciatica.

    Pregnancy and Sciatic Nerve Pain
The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body, providing sensory and motor function to the lower extremities. This nerve provides sensation to the back of the thigh, lower part of the leg and the sole of the foot. Sciatic nerve pain is a periodic severe pain that occurs throughout your legs.
What causes sciatic nerve pain during pregnancy?
The sciatic nerve runs under your uterus to your legs. The cause of sciatic nerve pain is thought to be associated with pressure on the nerve caused by the developing baby.
What can I do to treat sciatic nerve pain during pregnancy?
The simplest remedy is to lie on your side, opposite of the pain. This may help relieve the pressure on the nerve. Avoid heavy lifting and minimize standing for long periods of time. If you experience pressure while standing, try elevating one foot and resting it on something. Swimming may also ease discomfort.
You may experience relief by applying heat or cold to the troubled area. Your health care provider may recommend acetaminophen to relieve the pain.
It is important to contact your health care provider if the pain becomes constant, or increases in severity or frequency.

Sorry to hear of your pain, sciatic pain is brutal for sure. It seems yours might be aggravated by inflammation. Try some ibuprofen for a short time, see if things ease. A stretching excercise may help, but it’s not for certain. Kneel down, arms stretched over your head, lean forward and press your rear back, you should feel stretching and not pain. Continue for several sets a couple times a day. Do you find your pain worse in the morning and easing as the day progresses or vice versa? If you don’t see relief soon, I would see a doc as you may have injured your back during your pregnancy. I have twins as well, I know you need time to yourself, and a day or two off isn’t too much to ask, the stress of caring for infants can cause muscles to tense, plus the lifting of the kids and all that stuff. See if you and your partner can’t get away once in awhile. Good luck, I hope you feel better soon.

Assuming pain is only symptom, a series of epidural steroid injections may be of benefit. Contact your primary care doctor and ask for a referral to a respected interventional pain management physician. He may also suggest medications that can help with the pain.
