I’m going in for surgery in two weeks for the very same thing. I know how bad the pain can get so see a good back specialist.

I find that the best thing to do is lots of stretching from head to toe. From standing and walking after a while your skeletal frame starts to compress down. Stretching on a daily basis in the morning, here and there, and before bedtime. Also neck exercises are a plus.
Give it at least 2 weeks.
Regarding your meds, have the doctor prescribe a different medication (anti-inflammatory) for the inflammation. It probably hurts you more during the cold season. I know the exercises seem like a lot, but you can do it… good luck

Oh boy, this is not fun. I have the same thing, but it doesn’t bother me all the time. Moist heat helps me, and paying attention to how I sit. Sit it the hot tub for awhile. I take loritabs if it gets too bad Walking helps too

Here’s a simple trick that really helped me.
Sit on the edge of your bed. Turn your body to one side so that one foot is on the floor and one leg is lying flat on the mattress. Now lean forward and attempt to touch the toes of the leg that is on the mattress. hold the stretch for around 10 seconds or so – until it no longer feels good. Do the same thing for your other leg.
This stretches your hamstring. Your back and leg should start to feel better as soon as you do this.
Do this for both legs three or more times a day. You’ll notice you will gain a great deal of flexibility in as short as one week and your pinched nerve will stop hurting as much if at all.
